External Wall Insulation Case Study – Cambridge Hostel
At Strata we believe in making sure any work we carry out is the highest standard in the industry and always top quality. With a range of work completed across so many properties in 2022 we wanted to highlight one of our projects and are proud to share some more of our work here.
Project Summary
In conjunction with Aran Services & Cambridge City Council, the Strata Insulated Renders team installed an External Wall Insulation system to improve the thermal efficiency of the property to help improve resident comfort, keep them warmer and lower the energy costs to heat the building.
The work included the installation of the 110mm Mineral Fibre Johnstones Stormshield EWI system as well as providing new fascias, soffits and extending the roofline of the property. Adequate ventilation was also installed during the process to ensure full compliance with PAS2030 and PAS2035.

The Result
The 110mm Mineral Fibre Johnstones Stormshield External Wall Insulation system was installed with a 1.5mm Silicone Enhanced Topcoat and the colour chosen was Ash Grey. Work was successfully completed in under 5 weeks, minimising disruption and ensuring all work was carried out to our own high quality standards, in full compliance with PAS2030 and PAS2035 requirements.
This resulted in several benefits:
- A brighter and refreshed exterior to make the building more attractive and welcoming
- Significantly reduced energy usage and costs for heating
- A warmer building for residents to enjoy
The clients were left extremely pleased with the work and our team are proud to have supported and worked together on this project. We’re really looking forward to similar opportunities in the future and hope to continue the great work throughout Cambridgeshire and the wider regions.
