EWI & Rendering Works Completed in Fakenham

We know sometimes all the terms and jargon you can hear surrounding rendering can sometimes be confusing. As a specialist installer of silicone rendering this blog will help explain some of the ins and outs of silicone render. We’ll also help to explain what it is and the advantages it has over other types of render. By the time you’ve finished reading we hope you’ll be feeling much more informed and ready to spread the word!

What is Silicone Render?

Silicone render is now one of the more popular forms of render you’ll find on properties and one of the most popular types offered by the rendering market currently. It is a highly effective and weatherproof render that helps to protect walls and give a great finish. Thanks to a large amount of quality suppliers across the UK, a huge range of colours and types of silicone render are available to suit every kind of project and structure.

Silicone render can be applied on its own to give a new finish to a face of a structure. It is also used as a final coating after External Wall Insulation to protect the system and complete the look.

What other types of render are there?

It’s important to note that there are other types of render in the market and each have their own advantages and disadvantages. While we won’t be going into detail about what the other types are and their main uses and advantages, the other most common types of render are:

  • Acrylic
  • Mineral
  • Monocouche
  • Sand and Cement

While these tend to be cheaper than silicone render, their lifespan is generally shorter and they lack the same level of breathability. This means silicone render is generally a superior choice for most buildings. We’ll take a deeper look at some of the main advantages silicone render provides below. This will also highlight some of our reasons for completing our work at Strata using silicone render.

What are the advantages of silicone render?

Silicone render provides some significant advantages over previously used types of render. We believe these advantage make it the best choice in the current market for most standard buildings. The main advantages of applying silicone render over other types are:

  • It is waterproof and very effective at protecting and weatherproofing external walls it is applied to
  • A good silicone render product will require very little maintenance or cleaning
  • There are a wide variety of high quality suppliers offering huge amounts of colour choice so there really is something for every property and situation

What are the disadvantages of silicone render?

While silicone render is an excellent product in terms of its durability, breathability and low maintenance requirements this does come at a cost. Silicone render is generally more expensive than other options and can be more labour intensive to apply. We firmly believe however that the additional cost is well worth it. If properly applied and looked after silicone render can last 20-30 years which is significantly longer than other render types will last.

Strata Render & EWI Projects – Quality Comes First

Now that you’re hopefully feeling a little more more clued up on silicone render we hope you can join is in appreciating the effort our site teams have put in on a recent project completed in Fakenham, Norfolk. Our belief is to always ensure work is carried out to the highest quality and we’re proud of the work involved on this project to deliver a great finish.

The property here was in need of external insulation to the top half of the property and a matching render coat to the bottom half to complete the look and bring everything together. As a result we installed the 90mm EPS Johnstones Stormshield EWI System for the top half of the property with a 1.5mm layer of Johnstones Stormshield, Silicone Enhanced Render on the bottom half of the property to complete the matching look.

Out of the hundreds of colour choices available our customer opted for “Oyster” which has left their property looking clean and refreshed with a fantastic new, lasting appearance. Some before and after pictures of this project are included below which we’re extremely happy to share and show the transformation!
